In 1909, Michio Suzuki founded the Suzuki Loom Works in the small seacoast village of Hamamatsu, Japan. Despite the great success in the loom business, Suzuki ventured into the automobile industry after noticing a great consumer demand for them. The onset of WWII ended his automobile endeavors and the collapse of the cotton market in 1951, would get the company back into the motor vehicle industry and in 1954 the company officially changed its name to Suzuki Motor Corporation.
